Letter with map instead of address still gets delivered in Iceland

The special delivery was a letter from a group of tourists who didn’t know the names or address of the family they had met while visiting Búðardalur in West Iceland.

Undeterred, the optimistic bunch decided to draw a map on the envelope, marking out the property they had visited with a red dot, and listed any helpful details they could think of.

Instead of a name, the sender wrote: “A horse farm with an Icelandic/Danish couple and three kids and a lot of sheep!” They added that, “the Danish woman works in a supermarket in Búðardalur”.

Fortunately for them and the recipients, the persistent postal workers made sure the letter found its way to Búðardalur, which has a population of 270 people.

Icelandic website Skessuhorn reported that the letter sent from Reykjavik arrived at Rebecca Cathrine Kaadu Ostenfeld’s farm, some 150km away.

Icelandic postal workers clearly know what they’re doing and they’re not the only postal legends whose efforts have taken the internet by storm.
